Brand identity for Ruatipua Class
As a new satellite class on Otago Polytechnic campus, Ruatipua needed it’s own brand identity. Ruatipua helps their students by connecting learners with different abilities through education, outings and transitioning into life after school. My design framework was motivated by values of kindness, awareness and caring. I wanted to create outcomes that connected parents and students to the identity and functions of the Ruatipua classroom. The associated cultural narrative explains how disabilities are part of our whakapapa, showing acceptance, and even with challenges, new opportunities. The brand identity reflects this in the warm colours, hand-drawn elements and strong vector graphics that promote engagement and provide a consistent structure. I created an animation as a major element of the project. This was drawn from the real students and is designed to introduce Ruatipua to the wider polytechnic whanau. The project outcomes are designed for longevity and I’m proud of this legacy.
