She Wears Both

She Wears Both is rooted in my personal experience of conflict between fashion design and athletic ambitions. Duality of aesthetics has driven the process to curate a body of work that celebrates opposites unified into one.

My collection reimagines the way sports performance and feminine garments are presented in society to challenge barriers that separates the two aesthetics.Inspired by my own journey of playing Touch rugby whilst studying fashion, this collection seeks to pull references from sports uniforms, athletic styles, feminine features, and Bend it Like Beckham — a film that connects to the message of this work. Each piece in the collection is inspired from existing connections, the appliqué number 13 references sports jerseys and represents a personal milestone — my playing number when playing for New Zealand.

Presented to a commercial audience She Wears Both hopes to empower female athletes and challenge societal expectations through visual communication of fashion.
