What the Walls Hold

Willow Coombs’ graduate collection, What the Walls Hold, explores the internal structures humans make to protect and contain their emotions. Drawing inspiration from architects such as Tadao Ando and Peter Zumthor, this collection explores the dialogue between light and shadow, hardness and softness, exposure and restraint. Structured silhouettes are balanced with transparency and layered textures, translating architectural form into garments which exhibit both strength and fragility.

As a designer, she works with a language of quiet precision and emotional depth. Her practice is guided by ideas of timelessness, craftsmanship, and the relationship between the body and built space. Through this collection, she reflects on how clothing can act as both protection and revelation; as an external architecture that mirrors the emotional interior of the self.
