Research, experimentation, reflection and sustainability are at the core of my design practice as a Māori fashion designer. I have my own unique style, the past present and future as my inspiration with a 21st-century take. Our history, my story.
‘Spring Jewel’ is a swimwear collection that aims to merge Māori culture with a fresh consideration of the status-quo of femininity, highlighting pivotal historical moments in women’s history such as the Suffrage Movement, which recently celebrated its 125th anniversary in Aotearoa, New Zealand. The collection aims to incorporate an element of diversity, building confidence and enabling women to take back power over their bodies, while aiding comfort, style and practicality. Emphasizing and drawing upon the main colours of the Suffrage Movement, such as the purple, white and green that adorned banners, valour medals and jewellery the celebration coincides with the 2018 Pantone colour of the year: Ultra Violet.
