My design practice centres on design for social justice within the community sector. This Master of Design research focused on a group of people that don’t generally have a voice in everyday discourse – perpetrators of domestic violence. By engaging with qualitative design methods and looking at the system of interactions and experiences at Stopping Violence Dunedin (SVD), I identified a series of themes and milestones for men at SVD which led to the development of a value object, a key. This highlights both a shift in thinking as well as a celebration of men who become mentors to newer members. These keys with a 3D pattern serve as reminders of the support and growth that’s offered at SVD towards a life of non-violence.
